Step 1: Create your Thesis Statement or Driving Question
What are you curious about? From this curiosity, formulate your thesis statement or driving question. Note: You may need to do a bit preliminary research to create a meaningful thesis statement or driving question.
Gale: Global Issues in Context is designed to support global awareness, Global Issues In Context ties together a wealth of authoritative content that empowers students to critically analyze and understand the most important issues of the modern world.
World Book Advanced is the perfect research companion for high-school students, Advanced contains academic tools to assist with research projects and general information-seeking resources.
EBSCOhost is a powerful online reference system accessible via the Internet. It offers a variety of proprietary full text databases and popular databases from leading information providers. You must select which databases you want it to search.
Step 2: RESEARCH!
Where to start?
Here are some things that you need to consider:
a). Start your research using Research Data Bases. These are vetted sources e.g. Gale: Global Issues in Context, Worldbook, Curio.ca
b). As you do your research add to your References (this saves you having to go back later and try to find where you got your information from).
Citation of Resources
- At Royal Bay (and most post secondary institutes) you will be expected to cite your resources using APA.

- The last page of your research paper should be titled “References” which lists all references you paraphrased, cited, and copied images from.

NOTE: Gale and Worldbook will create an APA citation for you.
Avoid Plagiarism! What is paraphrasing? What are direct quotes?
When/if you go to the open internet for resources, be sure to critically evaluate them before taking “information” from them. Critical Evaluation of Internet Resources
c). Mrs. Martin has pulled some books from our collection that are related to this project. Feel free to look through these and sign out any that you feel will support your research. You can also search Destiny Quest to see what books are specifically related to your chosen topic.
Step 3: Determine what format you will use to send your message
If you have a Google Apps for Education Account and would like to learn more about how to write your paper using Google docs and create your presentation using Google slides. You can even create a comic strip using Google slides.
